Here is a small trick to bypass the windows genuine advantage program which is available/active from Windows XP Professional SP3.
I was a victim of this nuisance, even though, I "do" have a legal copy of windows XP Pro!! I used the following approach to bypass the program:
1. Launch Regedit (Start -> Run -> type "regedit")
2. Browse for the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
3. Delete the folder ‘WgaLogon’ and all its contents.
4. Restart Windows XP.
5. Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32.
6. Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache.
